Politics:
Politics in Los Angeles is as complicated and knotty as its highway system. Los Angeles is a diverse city, with a wide range of political ideologies and interests. The Los Angeles City Council is the legislative body of the City of Los Angeles in California. The council is composed of 15 members elected from single-member districts for four-year terms. The president of the council and the president pro tempore are chosen by the council at the first regular meeting of the term. Decisions made by city officials have to take into account the needs and preferences of a wide range of constituents. This can lead to complex debates, negotiations, and compromises. L.A. has so much inequality over so much space that its residents often want wildly different things from their politicians even if nearly all of those politicians are Democrats.
