PEAK ROWS GARDENS, Battersea, London

The city of Battersea located in the London borough of Wandsworth sits along the Thames river that runs throughout London. The neighborhood was bombed and damaged during the second world war as its home of the Battersea power station that powered London at the time, and supplied London with electricity. Where the architectural styles consist of post-war and victorian architecture. With a variety of typologies in this neighborhood from public to private with taller buildings along the waterfront and further away they become the typical semi-detached residential house. Typical neighborhoods have dense blocks of townhouses with allocated blocks for public green space.

Peak Rows Gardens focuses on bringing density into Battersea through a highrise residential building with public amenities. Key pillars for the design focus on creating affordable, healthy and high-quality spaces that enhance people’s well-being. The innovative construction of mass timber brings sustainable design and produces less carbon emissions than concrete and steel construction. Through public amenities and green spaces the proposal fosters community engagement and affordable housing with mixed use development. The peaked roofs emulate the typical residential neighborhoods as townhouses with pitched roofs and units side by side with pockets of private lawns.
