Politics:

Vancouver, British Columbia, the largest city in the province, was incorporated in 1886 and has a population of 662,248 (2021census). It is located on traditional territories of the Squamish,
Musqueam, and Tsleil-Waututh First Nations, who have lived in the area for over 8,000 years. Vancouver serves as a major port citywith easy access to the Pacific Ocean and rich agricultural lands.
European exploration began in the late 18th century, but significant settlement started with Fort Langley in 1827. Unlike other regions, no treaties were signed with Indigenous communities, and the
Crown proclaimed ownership in 1859, which remains a key political issue. Vancouver’s political landscape addresses reconciliation with Indigenous peoples and urban challenges like housing and
sustainability.
